Popular instant messaging app, Viber, has been updated for Android, to add in a couple of new features. The first big news, is that Viber now lets you send and receive Animated GIFs, and these will be played within the in-app image browser.
This seems to be a leaf taken from rival messenger app, Telegram, which to be honest offers far more features.
The second important feature in Viber for Android’s update, is the support for Google Drive backup for messages. Yes, it does seem to follow in WhatsApp’s footsteps, which added the exact same feature, last year. To use the backup feature, tap on Viber’s menu button and choose the last option, which says Viber Backup.
Now, you will be asked to select an account, which needs to be used for the backup. Granting the required permission, will allow Viber to backup your chats to the cloud. Do note that, once you have backed up your chats to Google Drive, they (the messages stored on Drive) are not encrypted.
