Benson Leung, is a name which made the circles (pun intended) on Google+ recently.
If you don’t know who he is, here is a quick introduction,
Leung is a Google Engineer, but by night he doubles as a USB Type C accessory reviewer. He spends hours reviewing USB Type C Cables and Adapters and posts his views on Amazon to educate users about the quality of the products, and whether they are worth buying. Google’s Pixel C, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P devices are among the latest devices, which use the new USB standard.
Leung says that not all products are good enough, and this includes the OnePlus’ USB Type-C accessories. According to his research, the new cables and adapters are out of spec, as it uses the wrong identifier resistor.
This is what he said about if using the cables might damage the device:
Having a weaker than 3A charger is actually a risk factor because the device being charged will always try to charge at 3 and if the older adapter can’t handle 3A, that is when it might be damaged..
