With Nexus 5, Google introduced Google Now Launcher with Android 4.4 Kitkat which was exclusive to the Nexus 5 device. Even though many custom ROMs were able to integrate this feature on various Android 4.4 kitkat ROMs, the Google Now launcher was still not available for other devices on stock Android 4.4 Kitkat.
Finally, Google has broken that exclusivity of Google Now launcher on Nexus 5 and has release it as an App on Google Play Store. Google Play Launcher has arrived on Play store for on Nexus or Google Play Edition devices with Android 4.4 (KitKat). Hopefully the standalone app will add support for for more devices soon.
