Google has big plans for Android, in fact it is so important that the Mountain View company is going to fold Chrome OS into it.
The Alphabet Inc owned company, has apparently been working on the move for two years already.
Google plans to release a new single operating system sometime in 2017. But users could be treated to a demo of the OS, early next year. Don’t worry Android is not going to be changed, it is Chrome OS, on which Chromebook laptops run.
So, this move is intended as spreading Android around as much as possible. And yes, this means that Android apps from the Google Play Store will finally be available on Chromebooks. It makes total sense, as there are already TVs, Wearables, which are powered by Android, and not to mention, there are over 1 Billion devices around the world, which run on Android. Let’s face it, Chrome OS never took off, it doesn’t have as many users as Android, and neither does Chrome OS have as many apps as Android does which is exactly why it is being folded into the mobile operating system.
The report says Google will retain Chrome as the name for its browser, but will change the name for Chromebooks to something else.
