MIUI 12 has a lot of customizable options, including gesture shortcuts. One particular setting stands out among these, the power button/fingeprint scanner, especially in the Redmi Note 10 series.
Besides unlocking the phone, it supports other options. Let us show you how to change the double tap fingerprint gesture shortcut in MIUI 12.
You will obviously need to set up a fingeprint to unlock the phone, before using these gestures.
How to change the double tap fingerprint gesture shortcut in MIUI 12
1. Open the Settings app, and vanigate to the Additional Settings page.
2. Select Gesture Shortcuts.
3. The custom gestures section has an option for double tap fingeprint sensor. By default, it doesn’t do anything.
4. Tap on the setting and you will see a list of options. You can set it to one of the following options
- Take a screenshot
- Turn on torch
- Control Centre
- Notification Shade
- Launch Google Assistant
- Launch Camera
- Calculator
- Silent Mode
- Get Issue-related logs
Select one of the shortcuts, and it is ready to use. For example, if you chose the torch gesture, double tapping the fingerprint scanner will toggle the flashlight on your phone. If you have difficulty taking screenshots by holding the power and volume down keys, you may find the double tap gesture easier to use. The silent mode is kind of like OnePlus’ alert slider.
Some of these gestures are toggles, and can be switched on and off with a second double-tap.
Similarly, you can toggle other gestures in MIUI 12, depending on your requirements. Unfortunately, there is no way to set a custom double tap fingerprint gesture shortcut in MIUI 12, it would have been cool if we had the option to choose the app or action to be triggered.
Xiaomi is expected to announce MIUI 12.5 soon, hopefully we will have more gesture controls in the upcoming firmware.
