Jio and Google have partnered to develop a new smartphone called the JioPhone Next. The device is set to launch on September 10th in India.
The upcoming phone runs on Android optimized by Google, and has access to the Play Store. Based on the homescreen seen in the official images, it appears to be stock Android with several apps from Google, Jio and pre-loaded apps like Facebook.
The company will provide the latest updates for the handset over the air, along with Play Protect for apps that you download. Additionally, the phone will feature Google Assistant. It also has accessibility options like Read Aloud and Translate Now, which works with the text on the screen.
The announcement video mentions that the JioPhone Next will have a great camera, which will support augmented reality filters (AR). The camera will support HDR mode, Night mode, etc. That’s not surprising since we have seen spectacular photography options on Pixel phones.
The rest of Jiophone Next specs and price have not been revealed yet. But according to Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and MD of Reliance Industries Ltd, the phone will be priced ultra affordably. Google and Jio are also partnering to develop the 5G mobile network in India.
