Letter Avalanche is the first mobile game from popular Windows software developers, Tweaking.com.
And, it is not just a word game. It involves spelling, falling letters, physics and powerups.
Now why do I say it is a hybrid of Scrabble and Tetris? Because that’s how the game play is, except this is a single player game.
You have to spell words from letters, sort of like Scrabble style. And you need to make sure the letters don’t reach the top of the pile, or it is game over, Tetris Style.
How to Play:
You have to tap on each letter from the stack and submit a proper word. Sounds easy? Well the letters are falling and end up on their sides or upside down making it difficult to spot them quickly. You can earn points and coins by spelling words and bonus words give you something extra, “Multipliers”.
Tip: Since the letters are all topsy turvy, it may be a bit difficult to figure out the N vs Z and M vs W. So the developers have added a line under each letter to highlight them better.
You can even use power ups to make things easier, here is a list of the available ones:
You can use Letter Reserves while your game is in danger of reaching the top.
There is even a practice mode where you can play without worrying about the game difficulty. Keep in mind you won’t get any points or coins in this mode, so use it as a tutorial and test out the powerups.
The game has some good music and sound (voice) effects which you can toggle from the settings menu. The game can even “Speak” the letters you tap on. You can also adjust the graphics and choose the music you want.
You can use their Facebook login service to sync the game stats between devices, even with iOS devices. But this is optional, you can play offline too. But going online lets you compete in the leaderboards and share your high scores.
The game does not have any ads. But it does have some IAPs (completely optional) for buying coins.
Note: For a limited time, when you sign in with Facebook in the game you get 5,000 free coins!
