LG Electronics has officially unveiled its 2015 flagship phone, the LG G4 today.
The launch events were held simultaneously in New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Istanbul and the company’s homeground of Seoul.
And here is all you need to know about the LG G4.
Display:
The LG G4 flaunts the company’s new 5.5-inch IPS Quantum Display (2560 x 1440, 538ppi). It delivers 20% greater color reproduction, a 25% improvement in brightness and 50% greater contrast. The display uses Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology, to provide better color reproduction and touch sensitivity.
Processor, RAM, Storage, OS:
The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with X10 LTE, and 3GB RAM. The LG G4 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and has 32GB of internal storage and supports expandable memory up to 2TB via a microSD card.
LG UX 4.0:
The device comes with the LG UX 4.0, which the company claims is human-centric.
Here are some of its features:
- Quick Shot – Capture images quickly by double tapping the phones rear key, when the display is off.
- New Gallery – Works like a regular gallery app with some added bells and whistles. The Memories feature auto organizes photos and videos into event albums based on the time and place they were taken.
- Event Pocket – Create a unified calendar by dragging and dropping appointments and activities from multiple calendars and social media sites.
- Smart Notice – Personalized notifications for weather, travel and more by analyzing user habits. for e.g: “Make sure to take an umbrella on your way to the subway.”
- Quick Help – It is found in the Smart Notice widget, and guides users on how to use their LG G4.
Additional software:
The LG G4 comes with Google Office pre-installed, and offers 100GB of Google Drive Storage free for two years. The G4 also integrates with Volkswagen vehicles, using Mirrorlink. This will display a car-friendly version of the G4 on the in-dash display, allowing the user to access contacts, navigation and music on the phone.
Camera:
The LG G4 sports a 16 Megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture, which allows 80% more light, to help capture images in low light conditions. The camera has OIS 2.0 (Optical Image Stabilization)
The G4’s camera has a manual mode for photographers to control advanced settings like controlling the focus, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation and white balance.You can also save images in RAW and JPEG formats. The Camera has a Color Spectrum Sensor for improved color accuracy.
The front camera is an 8 megapixel selfie shooter, which comes with Gesture Interval Shot. A user just has to open and close his/her hand twice in front of the camera, and the gesture triggers the camera to capture 4 images, which are spaced two seconds apart.
Design:
The G4 has a Slim Arc exterior design, and has a genuine full grain leather back. The leather back cover is made using a vegetable tanning process and is eco-friendly. The cover comes in six colours: Black, Brown, Red, Sky Blue, Beige and Yellow.
If you hate the leather back, you can opt for a ceramic cover which comes in the following designs: Ceramic White with 3D patterns, artisan-forged Metallic Gray and Shiny Gold.
Battery and physical dimensions:
The LG G4 packs a 3,000mAh removable battery. The device measures 148.9 x 76.1 x 6.3 – 9.8mm, and weighs 155g. The G4 supports 4G LTE networks and other common connectivity options such as 2G,3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC, USB 2.0
Pricing and Availability:
There is no word on the pricing yet. The LG G4 will roll out globally from April 29th in Korea, i.e tomorrow, and will be available in 180 Countries soon.
