Popular Android Antivirus & Anti-theft app Lookout, just received an important update, bringing Lock Cam, an important addition to their Anti-theft feature.
We have already written about another popular Anti-theft app called Prey, which does have similar tracking abilities, but not the picture functions yet. And I think it’s good that Lookout has added this feature to their app.
Lookout already had an anti-theft feature, which allowed the user to track their missing device. But by introducing Lock Cam, they have taken it one step further, now you can get the thief’s photo and location if they enter the wrong password three times.
Here’s the official change-log at Google Play which mentions the new feature:
Introducing Lock Cam: Protect your device from prying eyes! Get an email with the picture and location of anyone who enters an incorrect password three times into your Android or Lookout Lock screen.
Here is a video which shows how Lookout’s Lock Cam works:
In addition to sending you the thief’s picture, it also sends you the person’s location on Google Maps. Of course you will need a phone with a camera on the front side. But this feature is availale in the free version of Lookout too, so nothing should prevent you from trying it.
You can enable Lock Cam from Lookout’s settings.
This will give Lookout administrator rights on your phone and can perform the advanced functions such as tracking the missing device, reporting the thief’s location, etc.
Note: To uninstall Lookout you must navigate to System settings and disable it as a device administrator.
