MediaTek has announced the successor to its popular midrange chipset, the Helio P10, with the new Helio P15. It is actually quite similar to its predecessor, and features minor improvements.
For instance, the P15 uses the same True Octa-Core processor and GPU, which are slightly overclocked. The new SoC’s CPU is clocked @ 2.2GHz with 8 x ARM-A53 cores, and an 800MHz dual-core Mali-T860 MP2 GPU, as opposed to the 2.0GHz processor and 700MHz GPU of the P10.
Unfortunately the new chipset does not use the 16nm process, and instead is manufactured with the same 28nm process , just as the Helio P10. But, MediaTek says that the Helio P15 will deliver 10% better performance and power efficiency over the last gen’s chipset. Memory wise, the P15 will support LPDDR3 (933MHz), and for connectivity, it will support LTE-Cat.6 standards.
