Xiaomi has announced that it will launch the next phone in the Mi 8 series on September 19 in China. The confirmation comes in the form of a launch teaser with a date of 19th September. Even though the launch teaser doesn’t reveal the name of the phone but comes with a big “8” and we can safely assume it to be the Mi 8 Youth edition.
Even though Xiaomi is yet to announce any details about the hardware specifications, thanks to TENAA listing, we already know a lot about this upcoming Mi 8 Youth Edition including the hardware specifications along with renders revealing the design.
We think by now most people will be aware that there are three variants in the series already, the Mi 8, the Mi Explorer Edition and the Mi 8 SE. The Mi 8 SE is kind of the lower end variant of the three, but the Mi 8 Youth Edition looks set to claim that place.
The Mi 8 Youth Edition listing on TENAA spills the beans on the device’s technical specifications. It reveals that the phone sports a 6.26 inch TFT display with a Full HD+ screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Surprisingly the phone does not have a notch display design, and features a regular design with bezels, forehead and a chin.
The phone runs on Android Oreo 8.1 with MIUI on top, and is powered by an octa-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor. The Mi 8 Youth Edition leak suggests that the phone will be available in three variants differing on RAM and storage: 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM with 32GB/64GB/128GB of storage. The device will have a microSD card which supports up to 128GB/256GB of expandable storage.
In terms of camera, it features 24MP selfie lens, and dual 12MP rear cameras with an LED Flash. The phone has a rear placed fingerprint scanner. The Mi 8 Youth Edition supports Infrared, Bluetooth, USB, but we don’t know whether it has a headphone jack. The phone will be available in a plethora of colour options: Black, Rose gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, Silver, Green, Blue-violet, and Purple.
The phone measures at 156.4 × 75.8 × 7.5 mm and weighs at 169g. The device is backed by a 3250 mAh battery.
