Xiaomi has announced that it will begin rolling the MIUI 7 Global Stable version next week.
The Chinese OEM, began beta testing the custom Android version back in August, and we did test it for 2 months.
It has very few features which are different from MIUI 6, you may not even notice them. The most important changes, related to the performance improvements are all under the hood. Xiaomi says it will release the MIUI 7 Global Stable version on October 27th via OTA updates, and also on its website as Full ROM packages.
However, MIUI 7 has a major drawback, in that it is still based on Android 4.4 KitKat. Xiaomi has repeatedly ignored user requests to update its phones to Android Lollipop, with their forum moderators stating silly reasons like ” We only have a few developers”, and “MIUI 7 has more features than Lollipop, why do you want it”. The company doesn’t realise that the OS is major part of the phone, and if it doesn’t deliver proper OS updates, such as Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which has an amazing battery life thanks to the new Doze mode, Xiaomi could be going downhill.
Personally I’m using Cyanogenmod 12.1 on my Xiaomi Mi 4, and the Lollipop based ROM is amazing. If you want to know how to flash CM 12.1 on the Mi4, head over to my previous write up and follow the tutorial.
