Xiaomi has officially launched the latest iteration of its custom Android OS, MIUI 7, in India.
The ROM which was launched today, is the global ROM.
MIUI 7 brings a plethora of changes to its interface, with 4 new System UIs: Rosé, Pink blush, Ocean breeze & High Life.
Xiaomi has also launched 7 new themes for free, which are available at the MIUI forums. The company has also released a tool called MUSE, which allows developers to make themes. Additonally, MIUI 7 now offers a new lockscreen everyday, from a selection of HD wallpapers, with 10 pre-set available. More wallpapers are available from the ROM’s International wallpaper market. This feature is exclusively available to Indian users.
MIUI 7 features a large text size, called XXL, for improved readability.
Xiaomi says that MIUI 7 offers a 30% faster system response time, and 10% more battery life, than its predecessor, MIUI 6.
The latest version of the firmware also includes some new features such as Child Mode, which restricts apps your kid can access. A Baby Album automatically arranges your baby’s photos into an album.
Showtime is a feature in MIUI 7, which lets you set a profile picture, and also lets you record 5 second video loops, and exchange contact card with friends. This feature is an upcoming one, and will be rolled out in a few months.
MIUI 7 has better notification management, and even lets you mute notifications.
Xiaomi has partnered with browser maker Opera, to provide MIUI 7 users with the popular Data Saver, Opera Max. It supports all apps and compresses images, to save up to 50% of data usage. The compression is done privately and securely. The Data Saver will be available next month out in China, India, Brasil, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines.
MIUI 7 also has a rather cool feature, which allows you to skip voice prompts with Interactive Visual Response (IVR). This feature supports 50 Indian services which include the likes of Citibank, ICICI bank, Spicejet, Indigo, Tata Sky, HeroMotoCorp, and more.
MIUI 6 supports six Indic Languages: Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam and Telugu. MIUI 7 adds 4 more Indian languages:
Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati and Punjabi.
MIUI 7 also has a new feature for the Mi Band, which will automatically put your phone to Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, when it detects that you’re asleep.
MIUI 7 will be available for the Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Mi 4i, Mi 4, Mi3, Redmi Note 3G, and the Redmi Note 4G.
The Global beta ROM will be available for download, from August 24th, i.e., next Monday.
