Xiaomi has officially announced the launch date of its custom Android version, MIUI 8. The newer build will be released on the same day as the Xiaomi Mi Max phablet, which suggests that the device could come pre-loaded with it.
The company already has MIUI 7 based on Android 6.00 Marshmallow, available for the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi 5, so we are not sure what MIUI 8 will be based on. Also, a change in the GUI would be a welcome move, a more stockish experience with less bloatware and a fluid UI is a dream, but knowing Xiaomi, it may well not happen.
Update: Here is a video from Xiaomi, which shows the new notification panel in MIUI 8. The quick toggles placed in one line and are scrollable, and the section is accessed by a long pull of the status bar, a shorter one only displays the notifications.
We sincerely hope that it is based on Android Marshmallow, and that it will also be released for Xiaomi’s older devices. Xiaomi will be launching MIUI 8 on May 10 in China.
