Hugo Barra, the VP of International for Xiaomi, has said that the company will be updating its devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop, at the end of the first quarter of 2015.
The Lollipop update for Mi devices will be released first, and will hit the Mi 3 and Mi4.
The Lollipop update for Redmi devices is not yet scheduled, but will arrive later, assured Barra.
This is what he had to say in an interview with TheNextWeb:
We want the best of both worlds for our customers. That’s in full swing at the moment, and you can expect MIUI 6 along with Android 5.0 on our Mi line of devices by the end of Q1 2015. That update will come to our Redmi devices too, but we don’t yet have an exact timeline just yet.

The decision to update the devices MIUI 6 with Android Lollipop, and skip Android KitKat, will not ease things for the company, as it now has tens of thousands of impatient users screaming for an OS update. In the wake of competing OEMs pushing out Android Lolipop to their devices, Xiaomi is still lagging behind with many of it’s devices still running on Android JellyBean.
If they could iron out this issue, and do so quickly, they could capture the majority of the Indian Mobile Market. Barra also had a few words of praise about Android One, and stated that Xiaomi is looking to enter that market as well.
