Motorola is all set to launch a new phone in its popular Moto G series. The news was revealed by the company’s president Sergio Buniac during Qualcomm’s Tech Summit Digital 2020 event. And this time it’s not just a mid-range phone, but a flagship device that will be powered by a Snapdragon 800-series SoC.
This is the Moto G Nio, which will be the first flagship in the Moto G series.
The leaked photo, courtesy Evan Blass and Voice, reveals dual selfie cameras placed in the top left corner of the display. The phone has a thick frame running around the screen with a noticeable chin bezel.
According to a report by XDA, the Moto G Nio will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. This comes as surprise, since Qualcomm had unveiled the new Snapdragon 888 mobile platform during the same event. Still, the Snapdragon 865 is also a 5G capable silicon chip, and it is expected to be paired with 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage.
Motorola had posted a video on Qualcomm’s website to showcase a phone that can connect to external monitors, like the Samsung DeX. The Moto G Nio is said to be the device in the video, and will support DisplayPort Alternate Mode via its USB Type-C port. The phone runs on Android 11 out of the box, and will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery.
We don’t have a launch date for the device yet, but considering that Motorola has been promoting it via Qualcomm’s channels, we can expect an official announcement to be made soon.
