Rumors floating around entry of Nokia branded Smartphones powered by Android operating system has been around for a long time. Today, the rumors and speculations end as HMD Global has issues a Press Release confirming the official entry into the mobile market with Nokia-branded phones in H1 2017. HMD Global has an exclusive 10-year brand licensing agreement by which HMD now owns the existing Nokia branded feature phone business and will bring the new Nokia smartphones based on Android operating system. The first smartphone products are set to be launched in the first half of 2017.
Nokia has already confirmed it’s presence at Mobile World Congress 2017 and may announce some new products. Two new smartphones of 5.1″ and 5.5″ screen sizes are rumored for MWC unveiling. We already have seen alleged renders of Nokia D1C few weeks back and is rumored to come with 1080p display, powered by midrange Snapdragon chipset, 3 GB RAM and a 16 MP camera. HMD has promised more models to come later in the year and it will be interesting to see if Nokia brand can emerge as a contender in the new smartphone market, as it was before its demise.
