Carl Pei has shared some cryptic Tweets that seem to hint about an imminent Nothing Phone launch. The Swedish entrepreneur was the co-founder of OnePlus along with Pete Lau.
But things have changed. Pei surprised everyone when he left OnePlus in 2021. The Chinese OEM on the other hand is on a downward spiral since Pei left, and we have seen controversial moves such as the merging of ColorOS and OxygenOS. Whether these things are related to his departure from the company is something to speculate on.
Pei announced a startup called Nothing, backed by several investors from the tech community. The brand has released one product, the Nothing Ear 1, True Wireless Earbuds. It is worth mentioning that Nothing acquired Essential, the makers of the Essential phone.
Given his history with OnePlus and Oppo, it was always expected that he would be involved with smartphones, and that’s exactly what seems to be happening. That’s not remotely surprising, is it? In fact, a leak had suggested the same.
Nothing Phone launch teased
NDTV spotted a tweet from Carl Pei, where he mentioned that Android 12 is nice, and tagged Hiroshi Lockheimer, the SVP at Google, and the chief of the Android division. Pei also mentioned that he was back on Android, to which the official Twitter account of the operating system, responded that they had to lot to catch up on.
The Twitter handle of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon replied to the message with an image that hinted that they were working together. Pei also shared an image of a Nothing Phone fan-art drawn by a user, praising the effort.
All these hints put together tell us the obvious, the Nothing Phone teaser is coming, and it will be powered by a Snapdragon processor. The only question is, when is it being launched? What can we expect from it? Will it be another affordable flagship killer like the original OnePlus One? Or will Nothing offer a more premium experience?
