OpenAI has released the official ChatGPT app for Android. You no longer need to open your web browser to access the AI chatbot.
Official ChatGPT app for Android
The Android app is pretty much similar to the ChatGPT app for iOS, which was launched in May 2023. You will need to log in to your OpenAI account to use the app on your Android phone, or sign up for a free account. It is worth noting that creating an account requires a phone number.
Once you have logged in, you can start using ChatGPT on your phone. Type in your query and the AI will reply with the relevant information. ChatGPT for Android is based on GPT 3.5. You can use it to generate letters, write poems, and for other creative purposes. Long press on the reply to copy the text, select the text, to vote it as a good or bad response. You may also regenerate a response if you don’t like the reply.
To start a new chat with the AI bot, tap on the menu button in the top left corner and select + new chat. The menu also has shortcuts to view your history, i.e. the previous conversations that you may have had via your web browser.
The Settings section has an option to change the app’s interface to use the light theme and a dark theme. Or you can set it to follow your system’s theme automatically. You can clear your chat history, and disable chat history & training from the Data Controls menu.
The ChatGPT Plus premium subscription is not available in the Android app yet, but the plan’s page says that it is coming soon.
Download the official ChatGPT app for Android from the Google Play Store. The app is just over 6 MB in size, and runs on devices with
Android 6.0 and above. The app is available in India, US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Brazil, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Bangladesh and South Korea.
