Redmi Note 3 users, rejoice! The most popular phone in India right now, has just gotten the best possible firmware. The good folk over at XDA developers forums, have officially released the Official Cyanogenmod 13.0 for the Redmi Note 3. And yes, in case the words Cyanogenmod 13.0 wasn’t clear, this firmware is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
It is worth mentioning that this ROM is for the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon, aka the Kenzo variant.
In case you didn’t know, the MediaTek variant of the Redmi Note 3 is codenamed Hennessy, and you should not try flashing the custom ROM on it.
According to the XDA thread, there are no major bugs, and that the Wi-Fi, Data, Calls, SMS, Camera, Audio/Video, Fingerprint Scanner and all the sensors work just fine. But we have not tested it yet, so please do read though the thread for any issues, and if possible do report it here by leaving a comment too.
Remember you will have to unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery (TWRP), to flash the custom ROM, so think twice before you do so. The download links can be found at the official Cyanogenmod website, and the Open Gapps website, while the installation instructions can be found at the Official Cyanogenmod 13.0 Redmi Note 3 XDA thread.
We have seen reports of Xiaomi prepping to release an MIUI 8 ROM based on Marshmallow, but if you can’t wait for it, Cyanogenmod 13.0 might be the right fix.
