OnePlus is partnering with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad, for the upcoming OnePlus 9 series. The company is famous for being the manufacturer of the camera used for capturing images of the Moon, by the Apollo program crew in 1967.
The video features a bouncing Moon-like ball that sheds its light on surrounding objects. The media has a single voiced line that says “Just a thought, what if we let more light in?”. This suggests that the OnePlus 9 Hasseblad cameras will have large apertures, for better low-light photography.
The OnePlus 9 makes a cameo at the end of the video, which shows off the camera setup. The phone has 7 sensors housed in the oblong, vertical camera bump, four of these are cameras, the other 3 are an LED Flash, and possibly a Laser Autofocus and ToF modules.
Two of the cameras have very large sensors. We think that one of the cameras will be a telephoto lens/ultra-wide angle sensor, while the smaller lenses could be used for macro and depth photography.
OnePlus has a teaser page on its website which has the word Moonshot in the URL, and given that Hasselblad has a history of Space photography, it is possible that the OnePlus 9 could support astrophotography.
The camera design seen in the official teaser appears to be different to the leaked OnePlus 9 Pro render which we saw last year. The OnePlus 9 is expected to come in 2 models: a regular version and a Pro model. Both devices are said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G octa-core processor, and the Pro version will have a 6.7-inches curved screen with a punch-hole camera. The phones are expected to support 65W Warp Charge (Fast Charging).
