As we reported, Oppo has just launched Oppo R9 and R9 Plus smartphones at a launch event in China. Thanks to numerous leaks and a TENAA (1, 2) listing much before the launch, we already knew almost everything about both these devices including the specifications. The official launch confirms those and are same as what we reported.
Oppo R9 and R9 Plus are similar in terms of design and build with few differences in terms of Screen, Camera and battery. Oppo R9 sports 5.5-inch Full HD display whereas the R9 Plus comes with bigger 6 inch display Full HD display.
Oppo R9 is powered by 2 GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755) processor whereas R9 plus is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor along with Adreno 510 GPU and 4 GB of RAM. Both smartphones run on ColorOS 3.0 based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
Out of these, R9 comes with one variant of 64 GB built-in storage while R9 Plus comes in two variants of 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage.
As we reported earlier, Oppo R9 Plus comes with same 16 MP front and rear cameras making it a great selfie smartphone, perhaps the first that comes with a 16 MP front camera. Similarly, Oppo R9 too comes with a 16 MP front camera, but with a 13 MP main rear camera. Both these devices comes with support for PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and 4K video recording.
Oppo R9 is powered by a decent 2,850 mAh battery and is just 6.6 mm thick & weighs just 145 gms. Oppo R9 plus is powered by a bigger battery of 4,120 mAh battery and is 7.4 mm thick & weighs 185 grams thanks to bigger battery. Both the smartphones comes with VOOC flash charging support letting you charge the battery very quickly.
Both devices comes with 4G LTE support, Dual SIM and fingerprint sensor that can unlock in just 0.2 seconds. They will be available in Gold and Rode Gold colors.
Pricing and Availability
Oppo R9 is priced at 2799 Yuan (approx $425 / Rs. 28,000) and Oppo R9 Plus is priced at 3299 Yuan (approx $500/ Rs. 33,000) in China. Oppo R9 will be available starting March 24, whereas R9 Plus will eb available starting April 12th 2015.
