Oppo has officially unveiled a new display style for its devices, called the Waterfall Screen. It is a new edge-to-edge display, which it touts as more curved than previous screens.
The name isn’t related to the water-drop notch, but instead on the design of the display, which appears to flow on the sides.
In comparison, the company says that the Waterfall Screen is better than the one on the Oppo Find X’s curved display.
A vague tweet hints that the screen will offer a higher screen to body ratio. At first glance it does appear to be normal, but a video of a prototype device shows a much better looking design than the one we see in the photos. The screen could be a bit taller as well.
How well the Oppo Waterfall Screen will do is something that only time can answer. For now there is no ETA on when the screen will be implemented in the company’s phones. But we have seen such screens on Samsung phones, and the accidental touch issues they are prone to, when you hold the device.
And considering Oppo is part of BBK, which owns OnePlus as well, we may see the Waterfall Screen on the OnePlus 8, or even as soon the OnePlus 7T.
