OnePlus is rolling out the OxygenOS 12 update for OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 9 series devices. Here’s what the latest firmware brings to the phones.
What’s new in OxygenOS 12 update for OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 9 series
The Android 12 Update is available for the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro and the OnePlus 9R. It remains closer to stock Android, after the company decided not to implement the ColorOS experience for OnePlus phones, based on negative feedback from users.
The software is based on Android 12, and includes new icons with improved textures. The Dark mode has 3 three adjustable levels that users can choose from. The Shelf has new style options for Cards that make them easier to read. You can now manage your bluetooth earphones using the new Earphone Control Card. Searching for apps, settings, media data is now simpler, thanks to the OnePlus Scout. You can monitor your health status with the OnePlus Watch Card.
The Gallery app has a new gesture hat you can trigger by pinching with two fingers. It lets you switch between different layouts. The app will automatically crop thumbnails based on the quality of the pictures, for a pleasant experience. Canvas AOD has new styles of lines, colors, multiple brushes and strokes. The software algorithm has been optimized for recoginizing faces and skin tones.
Work Life Balance is a new feature that can be used to switch between Work and Life mode from the quick settings. It also supports automatic Work/Life mode switching, based on location, Wi-Fi networks, and time. Users can customize the notification profiles for the modes.
OnePlus has also fixed some issues in the Android 12 update, the screen will no longer stop responding when notifications arrive. Apps running in the background won’t be closed abnormally. A lens issue permission for third-party camera apps has also been patched. A bug that was preventing devices from connecting automatically to Wi-Fi networks has been resolved. OnePlus has fixed a problem related to Wireless earphones not playing the audio.
The OxygenOS 12 update for OnePlus 9 is available for users in India, North America and Europe. OnePlus states that it will release the OxygenOS 12 update for OnePlus 8 devices in Europe soon. The firmware numbers for the phones are as follows:

Known issues in OxygenOS 12 for OnePlus 8 and 9 series
OnePlus has mentioned that the clock widget appears smaller after installing the update, but you can fix it by adjusting it manually, or by deleting the widget and adding it again. The Phone dialer shortcut on the dock may be replaced by a shortcut for the Contacts app, so you will need to add it back manually.
