Tamagotchi was one of the most popular handheld games in the 90s, and actually sold over 75 Million units.
The Japanese manufacturer Bandai, in order to celebrate the superhit game’s 16th year, has released an Android version of it on Google Play.
The Android game is a colorful one, unlike the original which was black and white (on an LCD). The game still has a mode with the egg-shaped interface, definitely nostalgic for fans and owners of the original version. And the gameplay is almost quite the same , except for a few differences.
The game has two main modes: Toy mode and App mode,
Toy mode, is meant to simulate the old handheld game, as you can see in the screenshot below, it has three keys to control the game, the black and white tamagotchi, but it still has the colorful wallpaper and icons.
The App mode, which has the new interface is superb. It has the colorful Tamagotchis, unlockable content such as wallpapers, shells (which you can switch and use in Toy mode), and the list of 11Tamagotchis and stars you have unlocked.
It also includes a new mini-game, Rock-Paper-Scissors.
You can make your pet happy by letting it win a best-of-five game. Oddly though, it doesn’t become unhappy when it loses. refer to the game’s built-in F.A.Q for more details about gameplay,.
Note: It’s an ad supported free game, and you can get rid of the ads via an in-app purchase. But it doesn’t affect the gameplay.

I have already unlocked the 2nd Tamagotchi on my Nexus 7 and it’s really fun to play. Somehow I am always reminded of the Tremors movies and Fred Ward, when I read the words the Rock, Paper,Scissors.
To top the gameplay, they have also included a quick tutorial, an official manual which was for the handheld game and a well detailed F.A.Q which should help you care for your pet quite easily.
The game is a free download, so use this link to get it from Google Play. Or scan the QR code below.
Unfortunately, the game isn’t available outside U.S and Canada. But as usual, some xda members found a workaround. Well its a free game, all they needed was to share the APK and that’s what they did.
So if you can’t get the game in your Country, head over to this post and use either of the two links at the bottom to download it and play away.
