The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have officially been launched at the MWC 16.
The Galaxy S7 sports a 5.1 inch QHD display, while the S7 Edge has a S7 Edge 5.5-inch curved display.
The Edge Panel provides Quick Access to Apps and shortcuts, and will support third party edge panels as well. The Super AMOLED Display on the phones supports Always On Display which will display the time, missed call and other notifications, in a power efficient manner. The Always on Display will be customizable with third party screens which you download.
The phones are powered by a64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz (Edge – 2.15GHz), and 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The company says that the S7 is 30% more powerful than the S6’s processor, while the new GPU is 60% more powerful than that of its predecessor. The GPU supports Vulcan API which is a next gen graphics tech, which will offer PC quality gaming on the handsets.
The new devices also have a new cooling system (used in rockets and satellites), to ensure that they do not heat up.
The software on the phones has a new game launcher with game tools for an immersive game experience (block calls, texts, key press, record).
The S7 and the S7 Edge will come in 32/64GB internal storage variants, and have a micro SD card slot which supports up to 200GB of expandable memory. The card slot is accessible via a tray. In some regions this Hybrid slot can be used for a second sim card, yes the Galaxy S7 will support Dual SIMs.
The devices sport a Dual Pixel 12MP camera on the rear with an F/1.7 aperture (largest) and have very fast focusing, Smart OIS. The front camera on the devices is a 5MP lens, also with an F/1.7 aperture. The camera is capable of taking Motion Panarama – Panaroma image with action (video).
The Galaxy S7 is backed by a 3000 mAh battery while the S7 Edge is powered by a 3600 mAh battery and the devices support wireless charging . The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are internally sealed and are IP68 certified for being water resistant (30 minutes of immersion).
