Samsung has explained the reason why its phones may be running out of juice quickly. Devices running on One UI 5.1 have a Samsung Keyboard battery drain issue.
SamMobile reports that the issue was first spotted on the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22, but it also affects the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 4. The battery usage statistics on affected devices had suggested that the keyboard app was the culprit.
This has now been confirmed by Samsung. A post published by a moderator on Samsung Thailand’s community forums confirms that the issue affects all devices that have been updated to One UI 5.1. The South Korean electronics giant says that the bug was related to some other processes, such as the stickers and emojis in the app, and as a result its keyboard app on One UI 5.1 consumes more power than normal.
How to fix Samsung Keyboard battery drain issue
Fortunately, a fix for the issue is already available. The company released a new version of the app last month. Samsung is asking users to update to the latest build, which is Samsung Keyboard 5.6.10.31.
1. Open the Galaxy store app on your phone or tablet.
2. Go to the Menu > Updates > Samsung Keyboard page.
3. Tap on the update button.
You can also get the new version of the app by heading to the Samsung Keyboard > Settings > About Samsung Keyboard page. Tap the update button to install the latest build.
