The Samsung W2019 flip phone has been officially announced in China. The device is the successor to the W2018 flip phone.
The Samsung W2019 is equipped with 2 screens. You may wonder where the secondary screen is, well, it is under the main display.
The phone has a hinge mechanism which is placed under the primary screen, and opens like an old-school flip phone. And the Samsung W2019 has a traditional T9 keyboard to go with the 2nd display. Both the screens on the phone are 4.2-inch SAMOLED Full HD displays, and are placed in a back-to-back style.
Despite its 17.3mm thickness and its weight of 257g, the Samsung W2019 is a flagship phone in the sense that it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB of RAM. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo, and has Samsung’s Bixby assistant integrated in the OS.
The phone has 128GB/256GB of storage, and supports up to 512GB of expandable memory via the hybrid dual SIM card tray.
The selfie lens on the Samsung W2019 is an 8MP front camera, while the dual main cameras on the back panel consist of a 12MP lens with f/1.5 and f/2.4 variable aperture that supports Optical Image Stabilization, and another 12MP telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture which supports 2x optical zoom.
The Samsung W2019 has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The device is backed by a 3,070 mAh battery, that charges over a USB Type-C port.
The Samsung W2019 does not have a headphone jack, and is the first flagship level device from the South Korean electronics giant, to ditch the 3.5mm audio jack. This does raise the unavoidable question: Will the Galaxy S10 have a headphone jack? All we know so far, is that the upcoming flagship will run on Samsung’s new OneUI.
The Samsung W2019 will be available in 2 colours: Rose Gold and Platinum. The pricing of the phone has not been announced yet.
