Tower in the Sky, by the Oregon based developer studio, Three Brothers Games, is now available for Android devices.
The RPG-Puzzler game was launched last year on Apple’s iOS, as a Premium game with no In-App Purchases.
However, the Android version of the game has been released for free with a single IAP for unlocking additional content. We have reached out to the developers regarding this.
And this is what they had to say:
1. I noticed that the iOS version is a premium game without IAPs. But the Android version is free with IAPs for additional content. At which point can players unlock them?
Both Apps have the same content. In the iOS app, the user must pay upfront to play at all, and in the Android version the player has the opportunity to test a significant portion of the game before they decide if they want to unlock the rest of the content.
2. Why did you make the game free on Android? Is it a move to combat piracy?
Honestly, this is our first release on Android. We were advised that a pay up front model for a unknown studio would be game suicide, and that we should approach it with a free to download strategy. In the end, we just hope players enjoy the game. If that happens it will be successful in our eyes regardless of how much money it makes.
At first glance, the game looks easy, because of the beautiful cartoonish art work. But the game does require a bit of strategy The graphics are crisp and the sound was great on my Nexus 6. The gameplay is rather unique, sort of like a puzzle. The story is set in the Kingdom of Tyrune, and is spread across 91 levels, each of which will have monsters, aka your enemies, appearing from the right side of the screen and progressing slowly towards the left, where your heroes are. Defeating all the enemies ends the level.
Each hero has two powers, one special attack and a regular attack. The special attack is usually a ranged one causing AoE (area of effect) damage, while the regular attack depends on the weapon (sword, bow, staff, etc). You can move a hero to any of the lanes by dragging them on to one. Attacks are executed by tapping on the button when it is green, it takes a few seconds to fill up, which makes up for the strategical part of the battle. You can quickly move heroes around to attack approcaching enemies.
Heroes gain XP after each battle, and accumulating enough amount of XP, raises the hero’s level.
Note: Heroes can die during a battle, but they come back to life at the end of the level, and still get XP. The experience gained during a battle is shared between all heroes equally regardless of the number of monsters a hero killed.
The game features loot, oh yeah. Combined with the leveling system, these are what makes the game an RPG. You can equip your characters with various weapons, t-shirts with quotes and logos (I’m not kidding), and one item (amulet, key, belt, stopwatch) which grants a special bonus to the hero.
Adding to the fun of the game is the wonderful humourous dialogues during the campaign (references to popular brands like Starbucks, Walmart) and hilarious descriptions which the equipment have.
