Xiaomi has been delivered a stunning blow in India.
The Delhi High Court has banned the company from selling and importing its phones in India.
The decision to ban the company comes as a result of a case filed by Ericsson India against Xiaomi. It is alleged that the company has infringed the SEPs (Standard, Essential Patents), despite numerous communications from Ericsson. The Court has passed an ex parte order which forbids Xiaomi from importing, selling, advertising or manufacture its smartphones in the Country.
It is said that Ericsson had filed similar cases against Micromax, Gionee and Intex, and that Micromax had to pay royalty for it’s devices which used patented technology belonging to Ericsson.
Manu Jain, the head of Xiaomi India had spoken to The Times Of India, and said that the company hadn’t received communication regarding the case from the court or Ericsson. He stated that the company considers India as an important market, and is evaluating the situation with its legal team. He has also said that Xiaomi is open to working with Ericsson in the future, and will comply with all of the Country’s laws.
At the time of writing this article, the Flipkart listings and ads for Xiaomi’s phones and Mi India’s official webpage are still online.
