Back in April, I purchased a Redmi Note 3, as a backup to my Nexus 6, and have been using it for a month now. While it is a fantastic device, with a superb battery life of 2 days even with my usage, it did have a serious problem.
It began about a week or two ago, when I noticed that a notification had appeared for some offer on Flipkart. The interesting part here is that the Flipkart app was not installed on the phone. In fact, I had not even used the Mi Browser, which is the default browser in MIUI.
Turns out, that the browser will send out push notifications for its sponsors, even when you haven’t even opened the app ever. This is ridiculous, doesn’t it? But I dismissed the notification, only to be hit by two more such push ads from the browser. The screenshots clearly show the Mi Browser icon.
And one of it shows the URL which clearly has the words “Mi Push”. On closer observation, I noticed that these ads didn’t come from the speed dial shortcuts either. There were no shortcut for Snapdeal, but there is one for Shopclues, and one for Flipkart.
Shame on you Xiaomi, this is literally the worst thing I have ever seen on a phone.
