Xiaomi has officially launched its first product outside of Asia.
The Chinese OEM has launched its budget friendly Xiaomi Redmi 2 in Brazil for 499 Reals.
Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s global VP, said that Brazil was stage one of the company’s Latin America launch, and that it would also launch devices in Mexico and Colombia.
Barra highlighted the fact the company’s target was emerging markets. This is what he told Reuters,
“We offer high-quality products at incredibly aggressive prices, so we’re starting with larger developing markets where people are very price-sensitive,”.
Xiaomi will be manufacturing devices from a manufacturer, who has been manufacturing Apple’s iPhone devices in Brazil for the last four years.
On a side note, Xiaomi has slashed the price of the Redmi Note 4G by Rs. 2,000 in India.
