Redmi Note 3 users, you can jump in joy, because your device now has a first taste of Android 7.0 Nougat though a CyanogenMod 14.0 ROM, thanks to an XDA Developer, Santhosh M. Keep in mind this is an early release, so there are a lot of things which aren’t working on the ROM, as a result of which, we advise people to not try this on your primary device.
Also, you are going to have to unlock your bootloader, and flash a Marshmallow based ROM (link at the end of this article), before installing CM 14 on the Redmi Note 3.
According to the developer Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Audio, Camera (photos), RIL, GPS and Fingerprint are working. But we have come across a few posts where users say their SIM isn’t working, but these are unconfirmed reports.
The developer says he is working on fixing , video recording, and photo capture (apparently the kernel the ROM ships with doesn’t support all sensors yet). If that doesn’t deter you, head to the XDA thread to download Cyanogenmod 14 for the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon.
It is good to see that the Note 3 has gotten Android 7.0 Nougat, ahead of many popular devices, and that too within just 3 weeks since Google released the source code to the AOSP.
Once the developers polish up a few things and squash the critical bugs, we’ll test it on our Redmi Note 3 which is running on Cyanogenmod 13. If you want to know how to flash CM 13 on your phone, head over to our guide and follow the steps.
