ASUS has just released an Android update for its Zenfone 2 devices which adds the Kill switch (Anti-theft) needed to conform to US regulation (US country code). As per last year agreement between major phone manufacturers and the five largest U.S. carriers, they needed to include anti-theft kill switch technology in all phones sold after July 2015.
The Android update released pertains to ZenFone2 (ZE550ML) model. The version number of the update is V2.19.40.23_20150701 and it also improves modem capability for the devices sold in India.
If you are unaware of what a kill switch means, here is a brief explanation:
A kill switch allows owner of a stolen smartphone to send a command to the stolen device which blocks the access of the phone and it cannot be reset it too until an ID and passcode are entered making it totally useless for the thief.
Additional of kill switch does help in reducing smartphone theft in places where it is already implemented.
